Irish-born and educated, Derek Taylor came to Australia in the early 1970s where he soon joined News Limited as a cadet journalist. Spending some five years with the Daily Mirror and Sunday Mirror as an entertainment and restaurant reviewer, Derek ran the weekend show-biz, entertainment and restaurant guides. Part of the fun - and sometimes the challenge - of the job was meeting and interviewing entertainment legends such as Shirley Bassey, Liberace, Glen Campbell and many others. In 1975 Derek established his own public relations/marketing consultancy, specialising in entertainment PR. Drawing upon this expertise, Derek later developed Travelvision Media, a boutique PR agency specialising in the travel industry.
In the early eighties Derek was appointed as travel presenter/editor on Channel Ten’s popular Good Morning Sydney lifestyle show, an enviable, "someone's got to do it" job that involved globetrotting to fascinating new destinations in order to gather stories and footage for his weekly appearances.
During the past decade Travelvision Media has developed into a complete marketing and public relations company specialising in, among other activities, targetted promotions in the travel industry. Derek Taylor’s Travelvision Media Network now includes production studios and a team of marketing specialists who complement Derek's media consultancy and appearances.
Between 2000 and 2004, Travelvision Media Network managed all travel marketing and promotional strategy for the Radio 2SM Super Network, creating over one million dollars worth of publicity for the Network in a total of 20 major continuous campaigns.
Since 2005, Derek has presented travel programs on NBN Channel (9) and continues to run his successful Marketing Media company Travelvision Media Network.
